The number one reason we chose to represent Broadblue in the USA was safety at sea for our family. We are interested in cruising/sailing offshore and one can find themselves in rough seas even with the best weather forecasts. This issue was recently proven by the US Coast Guard rescuing crews from 9 monohulls caught in a gale off the NC coast with at least 2 boats being lost. We know from experience that if they had been on a quality catamaran, the outcome would have been much better.
The Broadblue line of catamarans are designed and built to be safe and comfortable at sea while providing great performance as an offshore and coastal cruising catamaran. The thick hulls under the water with Kevlar reinforcement provide protection from holing, the hull design provides a smooth ride even in rough conditions and her performance is steady from light winds to extreme conditions. There are many other important safety features such as a more stable sailing platform at sea, the flat deck to assist you in staying on the boat, wide walkways for easy movement around the boat, protected cockpit to minimize water entry, all control lines to the cockpit for single handed sailing, skegged rudder to minimize rudder damage, hydraulic steering to improve auto pilot performance, powerful bows allowing the cat to go over the waves verses through them, buoyancy chambers for floatation and much more.
We also appreciate the significantly less leaning than our monohull allowing us to cook, sleep and walk on deck in nearly all sea conditions. It all adds up to knowing that you and your family will arrive safely, the other benefits are just frosting on the cake. My spouse and I have sailed our Broadblue for thousands of offshore miles. When the weather is not ideal, my wife makes all the decisions of whether to go out of the inlet for that ocean trip. The Broadblue has made it easy for her to say "lets go" when the wind and waves have most boats tied to the dock waiting out the conditions. During one of our last trips, the winds were 35 knots, waves 10-12 feet, 2 reefs in the main and genoa, the Broadblue cruising easily around 10-11 knots while we watched a movie in the saloon.
A recent magazine review found our Broadblue 42 to be surprisingly fast in light wind conditions producing 6-7 knots in a 10 knot breeze. We also use our Broadblue for coastal cruising. Her shallow draft and 62' mast height will allow us to go almost anywhere along the ICW. She is easy to single hand even when docking.
The lovely interior is designed for comfort and cruising. Her quality can be felt from the moment one steps on the boat (deck does not give under you weight, nor do the hatches), the quality joinery and use of real glass windows. The anchoring system is superb, has never jammed and does not require a bridle. Our Broadblue 42 has a windlass control at the helm so no one has to go forward when anchoring in nasty weather. A true blue water offshore and coastal cruiser must provide unconditional safety, comfort at sea and great sailing performance. The Broadblue exceeds all our expectations.
Oh, did we mention, she is strikingly beautiful and will turn every head when entering a harbor!
